There’s no better way to quell those hunger pangs than with a “Carinthian Country Platter”
The Wörthersee Lake Hike sometimes takes you high above the lake, but always with a wealth of unexpected, unforgettable moments guaranteed. Occasionally it will be a view of the turquoise waters of the Wörthersee itself, or perhaps two anglers hidden away on the shores of the Forstsee.
And time and again, you will happen upon a farmhouse, whose entrance is decorated with a spray of branches, the so-called “Buschen” – a sign that their country-style tavern is open, serving (hiking) guests their farm-fresh products. There’s no better way to quell those hunger pangs than with a “Carinthian Country Platter”, including bacon, sausage, cheese, Carinthian-style hash and black bread – these are the basics of this traditional treat, served on a small cutting board and often accompanied by a “Frakerle“ fruit schnapps. And there’s absolutely no better way to quench your thirst than with a so-called “Carinthian Blend” of apple juice and alcoholic apple must.
