Via ferrata fun near lake Wörthersee

Did you know that there is an attractive via ferrata very close to Lake Wörthersee?

Just 15 minutes by car from Velden is the Kanzianiberg near Finkenstein. Around the beautifully situated cult mountain, with its picturesque church, is an extensive climbing area. Through many of the different rock sections also lead via ferrata sections of varying length and difficulty (difficulty A to E). They can be connected or combined at will.

Thus, everyone from beginners to via ferrata professionals will find a suitable challenge here. Just grab your via ferrata equipment, explore the vertical world of the rocks and then dive back into the wonderful water of Lake Wörthersee!

Ideal from spring to autumn

The most beautiful season for a via ferrata excursion is perhaps spring.

When around the lake the spring knot flowers sprout from the ground. On the Wörthersee circular hiking trail, the light green beech leaves bathe the forest in a special light. Then also at the nearby Kanzianiberg there is a mood of departure, of springtime lightness and especially in the evening an often extraordinary light atmosphere. Everywhere in the forest colorful spring flowers bloom and the birds announce the approaching early summer.

Over the summer, of course, this place also offers its charm. Especially the cool gorges and shady chimneys are very popular with via ferrata walkers. In fact, in the middle of summer, you'll often find surprisingly cool temperatures here, especially in the morning. Ideal for spending an active morning before lying in the sun by the lake and enjoying the turquoise waters.

If you love beautiful, colorful atmospheres, "Kanzi" is the place to be in the fall.

There is something for all skill levels!

There are no less than six different via ferrata sections on the Kanzianiberg.

In the immediate vicinity of the parking lot there is a nice beginner's or children's area with an easy practice via ferrata (difficulty A/B). You should allow about 15-20 minutes for this.

If you continue the path after that, you will come to the "little Prasvale". Here another via ferrata (difficulty B) leads over a large chimney to its top and over a breathtaking rope bridge to the "big Prasvale".

After a short descent, you enter again a large chimney, over which you climb again to the "Great Prasvale". Once at the top, a wonderful view of the Lower Gail Valley opens up. Simply marvelous!

If you now want to climb the variant of the "Magic Mountain Trail", add two more via ferrata sections along the rock massif. This results in a varied via ferrata experience of about 2-3 hours in the difficulty range "C".

Further information

Even though the Kanzianiberg is not alpine terrain. Proper footwear, suitable clothing or equipment is absolutely necessary. In addition to a standardized via ferrata set, climbing helmet and via ferrata gloves, you should take enough to drink, especially in summer.
