Techelsberg is known for its wood carvers, but also for its down-to-earth life. For the area around the Techelsberg some beautiful wayside shrines are characteristic. The most important of them is the Tschachonig Cross, which with its eight meters height is considered the largest wayside shrine in Carinthia.

The municipality of Techelsberg am Wörthersee stretches from the northern shore of Lake Wörthersee, in which it has a share of about 5 km, in an irregular relief characterised by wooded hills and ridges, up to the highest elevations of the Ossiacher Tauern, namely to Taubenbühel (1069 m) and Hohe Gallin (1046 m). The municipal territory covers an area of 28.32 km2 and consists of 17 villages with about 2,100 inhabitants. The 17 villages are dominated by scattered settlements and smaller villages. The municipality has an average altitude of 685 m. As a guest you can enjoy nature all around you, take a leisurely bike tour or test your fitness on the mountain bike track which offers everything, go hiking, let the children run free and enjoy all the water pleasures of the nearby Lake Wörthersee or the idyllically situated Fortsee.

Besides agriculture, tourism is the most important economic sector of the community. Nevertheless, no tourist industry with its negative side effects has developed. The municipality has two beautiful seaside resorts and the idyllically situated Forstsee. There is also a large public lido in Saag. The municipality is also ideal for hikers. On the well-marked paths, which stretch from the shore of Lake Wörthersee to an altitude of over 1000 m, you can easily reach the most beautiful destinations.

The cyclist can go on a leisurely bike ride or test his or her fitness on the mountain bike trail that offers everything. Accommodations range from a 5-star luxury hotel directly on Lake Wörthersee to farm holidays.
