Diva & Macho Dive Down – Carinthian Wine Maturation in Lake Wörthersee

An extraordinary project is drawing attention at Lake Wörthersee: The Carinthian winery lenzbauer.wine is submerging a total of 300 wine bottles in the Velden Bay on May 23, 2026 at 11:00 a.m..

Each 150 bottles of the characterful wines DIVA (Pinot Grigio) and MACHO (Pinot Blanc) will continue to mature for a year at around 30 meters depth underwater. Constant temperatures, complete darkness, and the special conditions of Lake Wörthersee create unique prerequisites for extraordinary wine maturation.

The project comes from the Carinthian winemaking couple Gabriele Sudy and Walter Unterweger, who are taking new paths in regional viticulture with their brand lenzbauer.wine. The vintage 2025 impressed with exceptional quality and serves as the foundation for this innovative experiment. After retrieval in 2027, the limited bottles will be sold exclusively.
