From Velden am Wörthersee, the route follows the B83 via Wernberg to the outskirts of Villach. Past Lake Magdalenen, the route takes you through the spa and thermal town of Villach-Warmbad. From here, the route continues to climb gently through the Schütt nature park area to Arnoldstein and, after a few kilometers, over the Austrian state border into Italy. After a short climb, you will reach the town of Tarvisio via the small border village of Coccau. Here you should definitely take a break with a typical Italian coffee.
Along the Cyclovia Alpe-Adria (the Alpe Adria cycle path along the old railroad line) you go back a bit to the turnoff to Slovenia (direction Kranjska Gora). Here you can choose either the asphalt two-lane bike path or the main road to the Slovenian border town Rateče. In between you will pass the village of Fusine in Valromana, from where it is worth taking a detour of about 3km to the crystal clear mountain lakes. In Slovenia, you will go from Podkoren to the Wurzen Pass. On a moderate incline with a short steep ramp, you reach the highest point of the tour before heading towards Lake Faak on a gradient of up to 20%.
You'll pass the impressively turquoise Faaker See to the east, where you'll now head - in the opposite direction of the Ironman Austria route - via Rosegg back to Selpritsch and finally to Velden.

From the village "Fusine in Valromana" a crisp 3km lead to the two crystal clear, turquoise mountain lakes Laghi Fusine. A scenically rewarding detour.
