Pyramidenkogelweg Keutschach

All information about this circular hiking trail has been provided by the Austrian Alpine Club's long-distance hiking section.

From Plaschischen (accessible from Keutschach via paths 12 and 12A or on the road), immediately after the ascent to the Pyramidenkogel, take path 27 to the right towards St Margarethen. In the forest, the trail climbs quite steeply to the left to the first houses of St. Margarethen and continues - keeping to the right - to the church of the same name (unfortunately mostly closed). After visiting the church, we have to return to our path 27, which leads down to the right to a stream. Immediately after this, turn left uphill through the forest into the village of Linden. Below a wayside shrine ("Petroutz-Kreuz"), the path continues along the edge of the forest or meadow and turns right uphill in the meadow to a group of houses. Over wooden and stone steps, you reach a house driveway, where you continue briefly to the left. We immediately branch off to the right, reach the "Buchsbaum" wine tavern and up the Pyramidenkogelstraße to the left. Follow this road briefly to the right and then immediately left again onto a forest path. A signpost (path 27) then points us up to the lookout tower on the Pyramidenkogel (very worthwhile ascent - magnificent views in good weather!).

To continue, we have to return to the point where path 2 turns off to the right, which we now follow. We reach an asphalted house access road on which we turn left (path 25) to a bend in the Pyramidenkogelstraße. Before reaching this, our path descends across the meadow to the right. On the following road (transformer) we turn left.

(Turn right to the Höhenwirt restaurant, where path 25 runs down across the meadow through the inn garden. Path 25 meets path 24, turns left towards Oberplescherken and reaches the Keutschacher Landesstraße not far from the junction with path 26. Path 24, on the other hand, takes hikers down to Gasthof Allesch and Plescherken).

However, we continue until shortly after a no-riding sign, where path 26 runs as a path in a curve across the meadow down into the forest. At the next houses in the village of Höhe, we continue above the Dreschl farm to follow the road down to the right after the last houses in the village. (Straight ahead is Pyramidenkogelstraße.) Under the high-voltage power line, we turn left and walk on our path (26) through the forest down to Pyramidenkogelstraße, where we walk along the edge of the forest downhill to Keutschacher Landesstraße. We turn left onto this road along the accompanying sidewalk and reach Plaschischen in around ¼ hour.
