Welcome to the Wörthersee-Rosental region

Whether you are travelling by car, train, bus or plane - your journey to the Wörthersee-Rosental region is easy, convenient and versatile. Thanks to the good transport connections and numerous mobility options, your holiday starts with a relaxed journey.

With the Wörthersee Plus Card | The advantage card for all guests, you can enjoy free mobility offers on site and can even reach your accommodation directly and without traffic jams with the ÖBB Transfer Kärnten.

Travelling by car

You can reach Lake Wörthersee safely and flexibly on Austria's excellent motorway and road network.

  • From the north: Via Salzburg on the A10 Tauern motorway and continue on the A2 Südautobahn.
  • From the east: Via Vienna and Graz on the A2 Südautobahn motorway.
  • From the south: Via Ljubljana on the A11 motorway or via Udine on the A2.
  • From the west: Via Germany (A96 and A8) to Salzburg and continue on the A10 motorway, or via Vorarlberg/Tyrol (A14, S16 and A12) also to Salzburg and continue towards Carinthia.


Please note: Toll stickers are compulsory on all Austrian motorways and motorways. Information on toll charges can be found online at toll charges.

For travellers with electric cars there is an extensive charging infrastructure available throughout the region. All locations can be found under E-charging stations in the Wörthersee-Rosental region.

Travelling by train

The most convenient and environmentally friendly way to travel to the Wörthersee-Rosental region is by train.
Both ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railways) and Deutsche Bahn (DB) offer numerous direct connections. Information can be found at www.oebb.at and www.bahn.de.

From 14 December 2025, the new Koralm Tunnelwill connect Lake Wörthersee to Graz in just 42 minutes - one of the most modern rail connections in Europe. So your holiday will start even faster in future.
Ticket tip: From just € 9.90 per person, you can travel from Graz to Lake Wörthersee.

 

Motorail train

With the Urlaubs-Express you can travel relaxed from Hamburg or Düsseldorf directly to Villach. From Villach with the Wörthersee Plus Card | The advantage card for all guests free of charge to the Wörthersee-Rosental region.

International connections
Use the service of www.thetrainline.comto search for international rail connections and book them directly.

Travelling by bus

The well-developed public bus network of Postbus and Flixbus takes you comfortably from many cities in Austria and neighbouring countries to the region.
Tickets are available online or directly on the bus.

New from 2025: The Italian provider Itabus connects Villach with numerous cities in Italy - e.g. Rome, Florence, Venice, Naples, Siena or Bologna.

Travelling by plane

The Wörthersee-Rosental region is centrally located between several airports and thus offers excellent international connections.

Several shuttle and taxi services will take you directly to your accommodation.
Carinthia Transfer makes it easy and convenient: affordable shared or individual transfers to and from all airports and railway stations.

Tip: Get your Wörthersee Plus Card | The advantage card for all guests from your accommodation in advance. This allows you to travel free of charge from Annabichl station (approx. 11 minutes' walk from Klagenfurt Airport) to Lake Wörthersee on the S1 S-Bahn line.
Alternatively, you can book the ÖBB Transfer Carinthia which will take you directly to your accommodation.

You can also travel from Ljubljana airport with GoOptialso offers an inexpensive shuttle service directly to Klagenfurt.

With numerous direct connections to Carinthia, travelling to Carinthia is very relaxed.

For the "last mile", the ÖBB Transfer Carinthia offers the ideal connection between the railway station, more than 6,000 accommodations and over 250 excursion destinations.

Simply book by 20:00 the day before - cheap, reliable and convenient.
