The varied route of the Forstsee loop conveys all the impressions of the beautiful surroundings. From the starting point at the Velden landing stage, the route leads through the village to the Franzosenkirche church and then slightly uphill through the Römerschlucht gorge to the Römerbrücke bridge. Then turn left to the idyllic and natural Forstsee lake (circular route). In the immediate vicinity is Carinthia's first storage power station, which has been a listed building since 1998 and is open to the public throughout the summer as a show power station. Once you have completed the circular route around the Forstsee lake, continue to the Franzosenkirche church and through the village back to the start.
The Forstsee is a popular naturist bathing area in the summer months!

From the Velden landing stage, walk through the village to the Franzosenkirche church. From the Franzosenkirche, take path no. 1 through the Römerschlucht gorge. The ascent leads along a stream to the Roman bridge. There you turn right to the idyllic Forstsee lake. Before you get to the Forstsee, head to the viewpoint, where you can enjoy a magnificent view over Velden, Lake Wörthersee and the Karawanken mountains. The circular route around the Forstsee always runs along the shore and you will notice that it is not a natural lake. Together with the Forstsee show power station (still operational at peak times), Forstsee is the oldest pumped storage power station in Austria (built between 1923 and 1925). The way back follows the path number 1 to the Franzosenkirche church and through the village back to the starting point.
If you don't want to walk through the village, start at the Franzosenkirche. Parking spaces are available. The tour is then approx. 7 kilometers long and has an elevation gain of approx. 200 meters.
