Wer in Kärnten von „der Sattnitz“ spricht, kann zwei Dinge meinen: den Gebirgszug, von dem hier später noch die Rede sein wird, oder den im Volksmund gleichnamigen einzigen Abfluss des Wörthersees. Er ist neun Kilometer lang, beginnt in der Ostbucht des Gewässers in Klagenfurt und mündet in den Glan-Fluss. In den meisten Landkarten ist der blaue Strich unter seinem amtlichen Namen „Glanfurt“ zu finden, Einheimische nennen den Wörthersee-Abfluss aber seit Jahrhunderten hartnäckig Sattnitz. 500 Rad-Meter von der Strecke entfernt kann man in ihr sogar baden: im ebenso legendären wie lauschigen Kalmusbad.
Der Badeplatz und das dazugehörige Gasthaus, in dem vor allem Produkte aus der eigenen Landwirtschaft auf den Tisch kommen, sind seit 1932 ein Familienbetrieb. Der Name des Bades leitet sich von der in der Sattnitz/Glanfurt heimischen Sumpfpflanze Kalmus ab, der vielfältige Heilkräfte zugeschrieben werden. Sie gibt ihre Wirkstoffe auch ans Wasser ab. Hier zu baden soll „stimmungsaufhellend“ sein, hilfreich bei Erschöpfungszuständen und Blutdruck sowie Nerven stärken.
