The eleventh case for Eberhofer – A provincial crime story
The Eberhofer women are losing it! And the "Steckenbiller" Lenz is missing, but no corpse is in sight. The Eberhofer is faced with an almost unsolvable task.
“What’s for dinner?” “Nothing. Grandma isn't cooking anymore.” For heaven's sake! What has gotten into the Eberhofer women? Grandma decides, after what feels like 2000 cakes and even more roast pork, bread dumplings, and cabbage, to rid herself of household duties − and from now on to chill. Right at Christmas! And since Susi is pursuing her career as deputy mayor, sex with her in their chic new apartment feels to Franz as if they got it free with the dining room furniture. To top it off, the "Steckenbiller" Lenz is also missing. Franz is supposed to file a missing person report, the Mooshammer Liesl fears the worst. Only: A corpse is nowhere to be seen. Thus, Eberhofer faces an almost unsolvable task.
Rita Falk, born in 1964, has created an absolute favorite among readers with the village policeman Franz Eberhofer from Niederkaltenkirchen. She grew up in Upper Bavaria with her grandmother and has remained loyal to the region she knows so well as an adult: not just literarily. The writer draws on her childhood memories for her novels. She authentically portrays a Bavarian village. “Niederkaltenkirchen is fictional yet exists a thousand times,” says Falk. She gives the inhabitants, including Franz Eberhofer, an authentic Bavarian tone that is both tough and warm-hearted. And Rita Falk's view of her homeland is just as affectionate: loving, but never romanticizing, friendly, but always honest.
The Parkcafé Villach in the former Parkhotel – built in 1910 and 1911 – has always been a meeting point for Villach society. The five-story building of the Parkhotel in the turn-of-the-century style could just as well be located in Vienna. The stylish stonework combines nostalgia, living room flair, modern bar feeling, and freedom on the sun terrace in the midst of Villach.
