The varied route of the Forstsee loop conveys all the impressions of the beautiful surroundings. From the starting point at the Velden landing stage, the route leads through the village to the Franzosenkirche church and then slightly uphill through the Roman gorge to the Roman bridge. Then turn left to the idyllic and natural Forstsee lake (circular route). In the immediate vicinity is Carinthia's first storage power station, which has been a listed building since 1998 and is open to the public throughout the summer as a show power station. Once you have completed the circular route around the Forstsee lake, continue to the Franzosenkirche church and through the village back to the start.

Directions
From the Velden boat landing, the route leads through town to the Franzosenkirche. From the Franzosenkirche, take Trail No. 1 through the Römerschlucht. The ascent follows a stream to the Römerbrücke. There, turn right toward the idyllically situated Forstsee. Before reaching the Forstsee, stop at the lookout point, where you can enjoy a magnificent view of Velden, Lake Wörthersee, and the Karawanken Mountains. The loop trail around the Forstsee follows the shore the entire way, and you’ll notice that this is not a natural lake. Together with the Forstsee demonstration power plant (still operational during peak times), the Forstsee forms Austria’s oldest pumped-storage power plant (built 1923–1925). The return route follows Trail No. 1 to the Franzosenkirche and back through the village to the starting point.
If you’d like to skip the walk through town, start at the Franzosenkirche. Parking is available. The tour is then about 7 kilometers long with an elevation gain of about 200 meters.
