From the Church of St. Anne, a few steps lead to the forecourt of the border station, and you cross the highway in front of the tunnel entrance. Following a narrow trail and the old Loibl Pass road, you’ll reach the former border crossing (1,367 m) in just under 2 km (45 min.), where there’s a staffed mountain hut on the Slovenian side. From there, the trail descends past the ruins of the Alt-St. Leonhard Church to the Loibl Pass highway on the Austrian side. Follow the highway downhill for about 500 m, then turn left. A service road leads to the farm known as “Strach” and, a little further on, to the “Maurer” farms. From here, the trail follows an asphalt road slightly downhill to the property known as “Pagitz.” You will now cross Long-Distance Hiking Trail 03 and, after about 500 m, come to a wayside shrine, where you turn right. You’ll now hike over rough terrain for about 20 minutes, steeply downhill to the “Deutscher Peter” inn, which you’ll reach after about 10 km (3 hours).
A few meters past the “Deutscher Peter,” the pilgrimage trail branches off from the main road, and you hike slightly uphill to the left toward the Tschauko Falls, from where, after witnessing a fascinating natural spectacle here, descend into the Tscheppa Gorge via a suspension bridge and metal ladders. At the southern exit of the Tscheppa Gorge, hikers must pay an entrance fee.
The distance from the “Deutscher Peter” to the end of the Tscheppa Gorge is about 4 km. Here, the hiking trail merges with a bike path that runs straight along the Loiblbach to Unterloibl and from there on to Ferlach. The 8 km from the “Deutscher Peter” to Ferlach takes another 3 hours. The entire stage takes 5–6 hours, not including breaks.

ATTENTION:
Attention: Effective immediately, the section of the Hemma Pilgrimage Trail from Sveta Ana to Gurk in the Loibltal Valley—from the “Raidenwirt” area to the “Deutscher Peter” inn (near the so-called Maurerhöfe, commonly known as Jurgele and Metschisch) is closed until further notice! Since it is not possible to bypass the farms on this steep terrain, all pilgrims are strongly advised to begin this stage of the pilgrimage only from the “Gasthof Deutscher Peter” onward. An alternative route is currently being developed.
In rainy weather, special caution is advised in the Tscheppa Gorge, as the wooden steps and bridges are extremely slippery when wet. Opening hours: From early May through late October
Walking the pilgrimage route is at your own risk.
The key to the Church of St. Anne is available at the house next to the branch church.
