instructions

From the Stouhütte (960m) you first follow the forest road through the Bärental southwards towards the Klagenfurter Hütte (1664m; partly also open in winter/spring) . After the Johannsenruhe (~1250m) it goes on the right (western) edge of the valley keeping somewhat steeper uphill. Alternatively, you can also continue to ascend on the flat road. At about 1400m above sea level, you reach the treeless terrain of the Hochstuhlkar. From there, go north through the so-called Fuchsloch up to the Matschacher Alm (1628m). After a short steep step you reach the foot of the long western flank, over which it goes to the summit.

safety_instructions

Avalanches can break loose from the steep Kosiak south flank in unfavorable avalanche conditions. For this reason, the descent should rather be made via the west flank. After large amounts of new snow (> 70cm), the avalanche danger in Bärental is generally considerable and avalanches can also reach access routes.

equipment

Avalanche transceiver, probe, avalanche shovel

suggestion

A stop at the Klagenfurter Hütte is worthwhile. To do this, you have to cross to the east on the descent at the foot of the southern flank.
