Diversity of Krampus from the Alpine-Adriatic area shaggy furs, clanging chains, and fiery traditional fun: During the Krampus run through Klagenfurt, around 1,000 Krampuses and Perchten from the Alpine-Adriatic region create goosebumps, wonder, and true Carinthian tradition – from the state government to the Old Square.

The Krampus as the diabolical companion of the good St. Nicholas has a great tradition in the Alpine region. While St. Nicholas rewards the well-behaved children, the naughty ones are punished by the Krampus. This tradition remains incredibly popular even after centuries, and the Krampus parades are indispensable in the pre-Christmas season.

While the masks and costumes used to be rather simple, a true hype has now developed around the most extravagant and terrifying masks, and the parades have become a showcase of the creative mask carvers’ talents.
