Techelsberg is known for its woodcarvers, but also for its down-to-earth life. The area around Techelsberg is characterized by several beautiful wayside shrines. The most significant of them is the Tschachonig cross, which with its eight meters height is considered the largest wayside shrine in Carinthia.
The municipality of Techelsberg on Lake Wörthersee stretches from the northern shore of Lake Wörthersee, of which it has a share of about 5 km, in an irregular relief characterized by wooded hills and ridges up to the highest elevations of the Ossiacher Tauern, namely to Taubenbühel (1069 m) and Hohen Gallin (1046 m). The municipality covers an area of 28.32 km2 and consists of 17 villages with about 2,100 inhabitants. Among the 17 settlements, scattered settlements and smaller villages dominate. The municipality has an average altitude of 685 m above sea level. As a guest, you can enjoy the surrounding nature, take a leisurely bike ride or test your fitness on the all-round mountain bike trail, go hiking, let the children run free and enjoy all the water pleasures of the nearby Wörthersee or the idyllically situated Fortsee.
Besides agriculture, tourism is the most important economic sector of the municipality. Nevertheless, no tourist industry with its negative side effects has developed. The municipality has two beautiful lakeside resorts as well as the idyllically situated Forstsee. Furthermore, there is a large public lido in Saag. The municipality is also ideal for hikers. On the well-marked paths, which extend from the shore of Lake Wörthersee to an altitude of over 1000 m, one can easily reach the most beautiful destinations.
