In Jerry Herman's musical Hello, Dolly! it is about the vivacious widow Dolly Meyer, a successful matchmaker who helps people find their happiness.
When the grumpy but wealthy Horace Vandergelder from Yonkers decides to get married, he turns to Dolly. Although he is initially supposed to be paired with the milliner Irene Molloy, Dolly soon has her own matrimonial plans and intends to marry Vandergelder herself.
While Vandergelder is away on business, his employees Cornelius and Barnaby take the opportunity to visit New York and end up right in Mrs. Molloy's hat shop, where Vandergelder is also present. Amid misunderstandings and complications, Dolly must prove her talent as a matchmaker to lead everything to a happy ending.
