Hemma Pilgrimage Route Sveta Ana, 2nd stage: Ferlach - Klagenfurt/Youth Hostel

In the center of Ferlach cross the Grießbach to the west and follow the markings of the Hemmapilgerweg via the district of Ressnig to the Drava. Here you pass the Gasthof Plasch and walk east for an hour to Glainach (5.5 km), where you can take the ferry across the river. If you let the ferry take you to the opposite bank of the Drava, you then follow a path uphill through the forest to the so-called Hemma rock. Here, according to legend, St. Hemma found shelter from a storm. A few meters after the rock, keep left in the direction of Maria Rain and after a short stretch on the road, turn left again, i.e. south, to the Petelinz viewpoint. From here, the visitor has an impressive view into the Rosental valley and across the Drava river to the sheer rocky precipices of the Karawanken. The trail continues through the forest to the pilgrimage church of Maria Rain. From Ferlach to Maria Rain it is about 11 km (3 hours), if you choose the shortcut over the bridge at the power station, the distance is shortened to 4.5 km.

From the pilgrimage church Maria Rain the path leads slightly uphill north through the village to the forest and further - west past the Stifterkogel - until you reach the road again opposite the residential house Berg No. 5. Here you keep to the left and immediately afterwards, at the next fork in the road, turn left again. Now follow the course of the Rottauerstraße until you reach the large crossroads in Lambichl. Here you cross the Loiblpass federal road to the west and turn right after the crossroads in the direction of the Thalhofmühle. The path leads downhill to the mill pond and past it and the residential building of the mill to the next fork in the road. Here you keep to the right and walk slightly uphill along the Viktringer Weg to the wayside shrine on the hill. Now turn left into the Kanonenhofweg and follow its course to the Cistercian monastery of Viktring. Cross the monastery courtyard to the east, walk only meters along the bike path (Koschatpromenade) and turn right at the school heating plant onto a footpath that leads north to the Keutschacher Landesstraße.

Cross the Keutschacher Landesstraße at an underpass and follow the cycle path that now runs parallel to the Viktringerbach to the north until you reach the Sattnitz (Glanfurt), cross it over a wooden bridge, follow the Schleusenweg to the left, i.e. to the west, before turning right into the Krippenweg after a few minutes at a small wood. At a fork in the forest, keep left and after a short time you will reach the Südring. Thanks to an underpass, you can cross the Südring without danger. Continue along Weihergasse, Waffenschmiedgasse and Haraldweg to the youth hostel in Neckheimgasse.
