We are very pleased to welcome ANDY TIMMONS back to Bluesiana!
Andy Timmons is perhaps one of the most versatile guitarists in the world.
Until 1993, he was the guitarist for Danger Danger, touring the world as the opener for Kiss and Alice Cooper, selling over a million albums and having two number-one videos on MTV. His discography includes six solo albums that offer everything from guitar instrumentals to blues and pop inspired by The Beatles and Elvis Costello.
As a session guitarist, he is featured on CDs of drumming legend Simon Phillips as well as on a live CD by Olivia Newton-John (Andy was not only her guitarist but also had musical direction during several of her concerts in the USA). He contributed to two internationally acclaimed CDs with Kip Winger and did studio recordings for Paula Abdul, Paul Stanley, as well as countless radio and television jingles.
He has also performed with other greats like Steve Vai and Joe Satriani (as an official guest on their G3 tour in Dallas), Eric Johnson, Steve Morse, Mike Stern, Ace Frehley, Ted Nugent, and Pierre Bensusan, as well as with some of his favorite "60's singing stars" like the Beach Boys, Lesley Gore, and Gordon Waller.
Songs like the Hendrix-inspired "Electric Gypsy," a tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan "I Remember Stevie," the wonderful ballad "A Night To Remember," the rural, chicken-plucking and barn-burning "Farmer Sez," and the incredibly beautiful dedication to George Harrison "Slips Away" are just a few examples that show why Andy has been a name in the guitarist community for so long. Andy's passionate style and musical intuition run like a red thread through all his pieces.
Andy's musical career began in his hometown of Evansville, Indiana, at the age of 13 with his first band Taylor Bay. "I soon noticed that getting ahead with a rock band is a lengthy process, and I was better off choosing another path for a guitarist career. So I started reading about Steve Lukather and Larry Carlton, who mastered their lives as session musicians. This immediately appealed to me, especially since I love a wide stylistic range."
With the decision to work in the studio, a serious phase of further education began. He studied classical guitar for two years before moving to Miami to study jazz guitar at the University of Miami (the largest of its kind, as it was home to Dixie Dregs, Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius, and all the others). Eventually, he moved to Dallas, where he was fortunate to find access to a very good studio scene. In 1988, the Andy Timmons Band was formed, and another one quickly emerged in Texas. Around this time, he was recruited by "Epic recording artists Danger Danger" to complete their debut album, shoot some music videos, and start a tour. After four years in New York with Danger Danger, Andy returned to Dallas in 1993 to continue his studio career and work with the Andy Timmons Band. He produced his first solo album ear X-tacy in 1994 and received rave reviews. This was followed by ear X-tacy 2 and Pawn Kings in 1997, Orange Swirl in 1998, The Spoken and the Unspoken in 1999, and the double CD And-thology 1 & 2 in 2000.
In polls conducted by Japanese music magazines, Andy is always voted among the "Top 20 Favorite Guitarists" and has been "Musician of the Year" at the esteemed Dallas Observer Music Awards for four consecutive years. He is also considered one of the most recognized and sought-after representatives for Ibanez guitars, for which he tours the world. Recently, Andy appeared on The Tonight Show and Good Morning America as the guitarist for LeeAnn Rimes.
