At the center of the whiskey-infused scheming: the three friends Fergal, Mannix, and Arthur, with little Patsy in between. A photo captures the moment for eternity – and decades later becomes evidence of a crime. For Fergal Massey, now a pub owner in Munich, is shot during a visit to his old hometown, Dublin.

Some time ago, Detective Inspector Patsy Logan left her everyday life in Munich behind – for a, admittedly, prolonged break in Ireland. However, the reading of a colleague brings her back to the Bavarian capital. Hardly arrived, she is confronted with the murder case of Fergal, a part of her own past she cannot escape. After that fateful holiday in 1989, Fergal and Patsy's father Arthur were bound by more than friendship. Together with Mannix, they built a transport company that could quickly make lucrative deals with special cargo. When Patsy travels back to Dublin for Fergal's memorial, she risks getting lost in a labyrinth of unwavering loyalty, unpunished crimes, and personal abysses. Soon, it becomes not just about solving a murder but also about the truth behind the mysterious suicide of Patsy's father, which has haunted her for years.

Ellen Dunne was born in Salzburg but followed her longing for the sea – and now lives as a copywriter and author south of Dublin. Since 2017, she has let her German-Irish detective Patsy Logan investigate. And that can be quite refreshing: For the research for the series, Dunne ventured into the Irish Sea for the first time in 17 years on the island. Like the waves, Dunne's crime novels hit hard – surprising, gripping, and with linguistic force. After "Hard Landing," "Black Soul" (new edition 2026), "Boom Town Blues" (2022), and "Unfollow Stella" (2023), Patsy Logan will be confronted with her most personal case yet in "The Sleeping Dogs of Dublin" in spring 2026. For "Boom Town Blues," Ellen Dunne received the Glauser Prize 2023 in the "Novel" category.
