Luís Vicente is a Portuguese trumpeter and composer who has performed not only on some of the most renowned stages in Portugal but also at festivals across Europe and North America. With around three dozen albums, he belongs to a generation of musicians that has brought Portugal into the spotlight of attentive jazz fans in recent years. Following the success of his collaboration with John Dikeman, William Parker, and Hamid Drake on "Goes Without Saying, But It’s Got to Be Said”, Vicente is now turning to British musicians, namely double bassist Mark Sanders and Olie Brice on drums. Both perform with their own projects in dozens of concert halls and festivals throughout Europe. An album release inspired Hamid Drake (in the liner notes) to write that Vicente’s work is a lesson about “always searching, expanding the range of possibilities, broadening perspectives” and being part of the “underlying code of the entire universe”, as Sufi mystic Hazrat Iayat Khan expressed. One thing is guaranteed: from completely free music to composed works, the artists always remain true to the feeling of freedom.
