Landskron Castle, Austria's most beautiful place in 2023, will become the stage for a unique theatre spectacle. ‘The Curse of the Rose’ takes you back 520 years to the Middle Ages. Experience the dramatic love story of Maria Fugger and Johannes against a breathtaking backdrop. The content The audience follows the dramatic lives of two young people who know nothing about their own origins in a turbulent time around 1500. Maria grows up as the illegitimate foster daughter of Hans Fugger in the Fuggerau ore smelter near Arnoldstein in Carinthia. Johannes, the son of a Spanish noblewoman, is taken in by monks as a two-year-old during the turmoil of war following the death of his mother, educated in a monastery and ordained as a priest. Johannes and Maria are attracted to each other, but their clerical status and a murderous monk who wants to destroy them stand in the way of their happiness.
