Star mile Velden - Prof. Karl Spiehs
Professor Karl Spiehs was born in Blindendorf in Lower Austria, and from an early age on he breathed theatre air in his parents' inn. "Die Supernase", as he is rightly called, is one of the most successful film producers in the German-speaking world. In more than five decades, he has produced over 400 cinema and TV films, many of them at Lake Wörthersee. For example, the dream-screen couple Uschi Glas & Roy Black were discovered here as early as the 1960s, in the 1970s the great aunts were on the road at Lake Wörthersee and in the 1980s the "super-noses" Thomas Gottschalk & Mike Krüger made their jokes.
Later Karl Spiehs wrote film history here with the successful series "Ein Schloss am Wörthersee". His festivals, which he celebrated in Velden in the 1990s, were also legendary. But what makes Karl Spiehs special is that despite his success he has remained a down-to-earth person. He has received numerous awards (among others the Romy for his life's work, the great decoration for services to the Republic of Austria, the honorary citizenship of Velden) and in his honour a landing stage in Velden was renamed "Prof. Karl Spiehs Steg". Today Prof. Spiehs lives with his family at the Wörthersee. With his handprint in the Veldener Starmeile and the landing stage named after him, Prof. Karl Spiehs has a fixed place in one of his great places of activity.
