As dark gray as his songs, this production of the Rabenhof Theater is not at first glance – instead, it guarantees a fairytale forest backdrop of Austrian style and some spring-like moments in the November universe of Ludwig Hirsch.

Following the successful shows about André Heller and Georg Danzer, the nameless All-Star band around music mastermind Oliver Welter presents a new show in honor of the darkest of all “Austropoppers.” Christoph Krutzler, Lucy McEvil, Alf Peherstorfer, and Rabenhof director Thomas Gratzer delved into the incredibly multifaceted and deeply Austrian artistic personality of Ludwig Hirsch ten years after his death. The singer-songwriter with the razor-sharp gaze into the innards of human abyss was one of the greats of his genre and also a significant figure in Austrian folk theater. Despite his extensive body of work and the wealth of texts, the audience will not have to forego his hits – definitely in exciting reinterpretations.

And so, only two questions remain: How long must an evening be to accommodate all this, and can “Spit the Pacifier Out” still be played today?
