"Remember" - Rudi Katholnig (accordion) and Hans-Peter Steiner (saxophone) embark on an unusual journey in their new program.
Under the title !"Remember" (“Remembering”), a series of very personal and extraordinary excursions into the musical past has emerged.
In each of the twelve titles, the unique approach of the musicians, who have been collaborating since 2016, is palpable. Initially, their musical creation was strongly influenced by Dave Brubeck's “Unsquare Dance” and Paul Desmond's “Take Five”; later, Richard Galliano and Astor Piazzolla significantly expanded their musical worldview.
Not to forget the pop and rock songs of the 1970s and 80s. All these memories also shine through in Rudi Katholnig's own compositions.
In this context, “Remember,” the title track of the new CD, is his homage to Romed Mungenast, a great Austrian Jenisch.
It is no coincidence that the journey of remembrance ends with the explicitly political “Fable of Faubus” by Charles Mingus. With this, Katholnig and Steiner make a statement against racism and dictatorships of all kinds, not only musically but also through voice and text. Their interpretations are understood as a bow to the diversity of the most varied people and cultures.
