From Bärental to the Kosiak (Klagenfurter Hut)

This hike is very popular especially with families. Up to the hut rather comfortable, then it becomes strenuous: The summit of Kosiak must be earned. But you will be rewarded with a fantastic panoramic view.

Coming from Klagenfurt to Feistritz im Rosental, turn left here before the Lausegger inn into Bärental. Continue past the former Stouhütte inn, follow the asphalt road, then another 2.5 km of gravel road. Large parking lot on the left!

Directions

From the parking lot, hike via the Johannsenruhe along the marked hut trail to the Klagenfurter Hütte. From here, follow the marked trail westwards. You first cross the mighty summit slope of the Kosiak above the Matschacher Alm on a relatively level path, then ascend in a fairly straight and steep line in numerous hairpin bends over the southwest ridge to the summit.
The descent is via the east ridge (quite steep in places) until you meet the "Stinzesteig" (ascent from the Bodental valley to the Klagenfurter Hütte). Head west through the sparse larch forest to the Klagenfurter Hütte in just a few minutes.

Be sure to stop by the hut landlord Roland at the Klagenfurter Hütte, where you can also enjoy an excellent roast pork.
