He carries the sound of his homeland in his heart and soul. An extraordinary interpreter of the traditions of swamp and Mississippi music, touring around the world, countless records and awards to his credit.
Johnny Sansone's father was a saxophonist in Dave Brubeck's band during World War II.
He was the one who gave Johnny his first saxophone at the tender age of eight.
When Little Johnny experienced Howlin' Wolf live at the age of 12, he knew he would dedicate his life to the blues.
He studied with blues legends James Cotton and Jr. Wells in the 1970s and toured in the 1980s with Ronnie Earl, John Lee Hooker, Jimmy Rodgers, and Robert Lackwood Jr.
Johnny settled in New Orleans in 1990. By the mid-90s, he had become a Mississippi legend.
His recording "Crescent City Moon" won several Best of the Beat awards. When Sansone then played in another acoustic trio, this time with Osborne (who had also been in Bluesiana) and Fohl, he was inspired to write the title "The Lord Is Waiting and The Devil Is Too." It became the title track of his 2011 album and won the title "Song of the Year" at the 2012 Blues Music Awards. It offered a release from the burdens of a separation in marriage, and the album's producer, Osborn, took Sansone's music in a more commercial, rock-influenced direction.
