On the way from the East Bay up to the Zillhöhe, you pass the vineyard of the city of Klagenfurt - a wonderful tribute to the warm climate of the region, with an even more wonderful view of the Karawanken mountains on the southern border of Carinthia.
After crossing the southern highway, a dense beech forest with its peaceful silence swallows the hikers again. The trail rolls leisurely up the rolling hills to Draßnitz Castle, a wonderful rest stop. Here, on the downhill passage to Pirk, the landscape opens up fundamentally for the first time. Lake Wörthersee is out of sight, and suddenly green fields and the rugged but mostly clearly visible peaks of the Hohe Tauern to the west dominate. The following ascent to the Pirkerkogel is perhaps the most strenuous and steepest passage on the circular trail. You will be rewarded for your efforts at the vantage point directly after the summit. Here you have an unrestricted view to the south, where the turquoise-blue Wörthersee sparkles majestically in the sun in front of the mighty Karawanken.
After that, the hiking trail runs steadily along the southern side of the hill range, where sun-flooded clearings alternate with green beech forests and dense coniferous forests.

From the landing stage you walk underneath the railroad and highway to Freyenthurn Castle. You reach a beautiful vantage point with a view over the vineyards to the eastern shore of Lake Wörthersee. Continue along trail no. 7 to the Zillhöhe at 536 m. An idyllic resting place with a magnificent view. Continue to Krumpendorf, past the natural monument Gletschertöpfe, Hornstein Castle and Drasing Castle. After Pirk you will reach the highest point of the hike, the Pirker Kogel with 666 m. A short but steep ascent. At Hoher Gaisrücken the path branches off to Pörtschach. Passing the Buschenschenke Brock, it goes below the highway to the center. In Pörtschach, on the way to the landing stage, you will find old villas from the Wörthersee architecture.
