10 recommendations of the PES

As a nature sport, mountain hiking offers great opportunities for health, community and experience. The following recommendations of the alpine associations serve to make mountain hikes as safe and enjoyable as possible.

1. healthy in the mountains
Mountain hiking is an endurance sport. The positive stress stimuli for heart and circulation require health and a realistic self-assessment. Avoid time pressure and choose a pace that doesn't leave anyone in the group out of breath.

Careful planning
Hiking maps, guide literature, the Internet and experts provide information about length, altitude difference, difficulty and current conditions. Always tailor tours to the group! Pay special attention to the weather forecast, as rain, wind and cold increase the risk of accidents.

3. complete equipment
Adapt your equipment to your undertaking and pay attention to a low backpack weight. Rain, cold and sun protection always belong in your backpack, as well as a first aid kit and cell phone (Euro emergency 112). A map or GPS can help you find your way.

4. suitable footwear
Good hiking shoes protect and relieve the foot and improve the surefootedness! Make sure they fit perfectly, have a non-slip treaded sole, are waterproof and lightweight.

5. surefootedness is the key
Falls, as a result of slipping or tripping, are the most common cause of accidents! Note that too much speed or fatigue will greatly affect your surefootedness and concentration. Beware of falling rocks: by walking carefully, you can avoid hitting rocks.

Stay on marked trails
In pathless terrain, the risk of disorientation, falling and falling rocks increases. Avoid shortcuts and return to the last known point once off the trail. Often underestimated and very dangerous: steep old snow fields!

7. regular breaks
Timely rests are for recreation, enjoying the scenery and socializing. Food and drink are necessary to maintain performance and concentration. Isotonic drinks are ideal thirst quenchers. Granola bars, dried fruit, and cookies satisfy hunger along the way.

8. responsibility for children
Note that variety and playful discovery are paramount for children! In passages with a risk of falling, an adult can only supervise one child. Very exposed tours that require prolonged concentration are not suitable for children.

9. small groups
Small groups ensure flexibility and allow mutual help. Inform familiar people of destination, route, and return. Stay together in the group. Beware of lone hikers: even minor incidents can lead to serious emergencies.

10 Respect for nature and the environment
To protect mountain nature: do not leave litter behind, avoid noise, stay on trails, do not disturb wild and grazing animals, leave plants untouched and respect protected areas. To get there, use public transportation or carpool.

suggestion

A special feature is the church on the Luschasattel - this was built on the private initiative of Mr. Florian Sadounig cf. Riepl for all religions as a union church. This church is always open and can be visited at any time. Whoever presses the church bell once - a wish will be granted.
