Description
The Eisenhüttenwerk Heft is considered a monumental witness of the iron industry of the 19th century and is one of the largest historical ironworks in Europe. The impressive structure was modernly complemented by Carinthian architect Günther Domenig with a hovering glass-steel construction.
Today, the facility forms an extraordinary open-air museum where classical mining buildings and contemporary architecture merge. The spectacularly staged blast furnaces serve as the starting point for this hike.
From there, the route leads to Knappenberg and then back along the historic ore railway to the starting point. The trail is about 10 kilometers long and overcomes approximately 280 meters in elevation. Those participating in the tour should be free from vertigo.
