"LET'S GO BIO" - organic bike route in Rosental

Travel ecologically by train or start directly at the parking lot of the idyllic Rosegg Castle.

The organic cycle tour begins at the castle and continues along the old castle avenue through the district of Frög to the Drau Canal.

Immediately after the Schlossallee, after the bend to the right, you will find Lisa Rettl's enchanting organic herb garden lichtgut.at/garten with fragrant herbs, blooming roses and buzzing bees. In the "Garden of Mindfulness", herbs are processed into mild plant waters, tinctures or ointments of "Traditional European Medicine".

The next stop takes you to St. Jakob im Rosental. In Christian Hermann 's fields, you can find various organic crops depending on the season. Above all, however, there are over 600 m long biodiversity areas with natural hedges and flower strips, which were newly created together with "Birdlife Kärnten". The natural hedges provide a protective and valuable habitat for a wide variety of bird species and creatures - as protection, for breeding, as a source of food, etc.

We walk past the flower strips to the beautifully situated Biohof-Kmetija Baumgartner biohof.kmetija.baumgartner organic farm directly on the Drau. The Baumgartner family is passionate about the diversity of organic farming - cows, chickens, pigs, arable farming and a great organic farm store with vegetables, bread, potatoes, meat, yoghurt, honey and much more from the region as well as flours and oils from the Janežič organic farm (if you want to take a short detour, you can also visit the Janežič family's small farm store at Lessach 4, 9183 Rosenbach).

After a few kilometers along the cycle path, cross the Drau bridge to the other side of the river. Optionally, after the bridge to the right, there is a short detour (approx. 1 km) to the Land Art & Nature Conservation Project "ZIKKURAT-Drauwelle" drauradweg.zikkurat-drauwelle. Climb the hill snail past the sheep and enjoy the view of the extraordinary renaturalized Drau landscape.

Return to the bridge and continue along this bank in the opposite direction to Rosegg. On the way we come to the organic farm store of the Sonnhof below the village of St. Egyden. On Thursdays and Fridays (except public holidays) - current times at www.sonnhof.me you can buy hemp products, oils & oil seeds, natural cosmetics & herbal teas directly on site.

The route continues through the village of Pritschitz before a short ascent to Selpritsch and then back to Rosegg. Shortly before the castle, you can make a stop at Christian Hermann's organic garden, which is simply a lot like this. Depending on the season, you can take home fresh, home-picked strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and currants . You can also watch the bee colonies of organic beekeeper Hans Hermann at work pollinating the organic fruit bushes. Organic vegetable cultivation with a farm store is also planned for the coming years.

The end of the organic cycle tour is right next to Rosegg Castle with a nice café, the zoo and a labyrinth.
