Directions

You leave Maria Saal from the cathedral square via the staircase in Zunkgasse to the south, follow the Maria-Saaler-Berg-Weg to the fire station, turn right here into Ratzendorferstraße, keep right again after a few meters at the wayside shrine and reach Ratzendorf via the Seiserweg and then the Zollfeld Landesstraße. Cross the road to the right and follow the signs for the cycle & hiking trail, cross under the railroad and the expressway and walk across the Zollfeld to Karnburg. At the beginning of Karnburg, turn onto the Glan cycle path and walk east of the river to Klagenfurt, where the cycle path joins Milesistraße. Keep right and continue to Magereggerstraße, cross the Glan to the right and after a long left-hand bend you come to Mageregg Castle (Maria Saal - Klagenfurt, Mageregg Castle: 7 km). At the parking lot along the castle wall, continue walking, cross Feldkirchnerstraße to the west at an underpass, keep left twice at the next fork in the road and come directly onto Feldkirchnerstraße south of the MegabauMax DIY store. Now, for better or worse, you have to march 2 km into town on the footpath and cycle path parallel to Feldkirchnerstraße. At the Hemmakirche church, leave Feldkirchnerstraße, which makes a slight left turn here, and continue straight on into Aichelburg-Labia-Straße. The worst of the noise and traffic is now behind you. The path continues to Lerchenfeldstraße and along it, regardless of the many crossroads, straight south to the Lendkanal (Klagenfurt, Mageregg - Klagenfurt, Lendkanal/Tarviserstraße: 4.3 km), which you follow west to Minimundus. This 4 km long waterway, which connects the city with Lake Wörthersee, is almost romantically beautiful, lined with magnificent villas and an avenue in whose shade you can enjoy a relaxing stroll. About halfway along, you reach the Stone Bridge, a popular meeting point for Klagenfurt residents on their way from the city to the lake and known for its excellent ice cream parlors. When you finally reach Minimundus, cross the Lendkanal to the south via the Loreleisteg and then keep to the right. In a large arc, you then pass the newly built Lindner Seepark Hotel to the west and then turn into Wörthersee Süduferstraße, which you follow south along the cycle path to the junction at Hotel Rösch/Viktring junction. You need to be careful here as you have to cross several roads. South of the junction, you then turn into Jugenddorfstraße. This is the first uphill section of the day. From Hotel Rösch, you will see the blue-white-blue markings of the Wörthersee circular hiking trail next to the Marienpilgerweg markings. Once you reach the Maiernigg Alpe, the path turns off into the forest (Klagenfurt, Lendkanal - Klagenfurt, Maiernigg Alpe: 6 km). After about an hour in the shady mixed beech forest, with occasional views of Lake Wörthersee, you reach the two Spintikteiche, the core area of the nature reserve of the same name (Maiernigg Alpe - Spintikteiche: 3.7 km). The trees are reflected in the calm moorland water, sometimes an exuberant fish breaks the surface, a small stream babbles beside the path, a bench invites you to rest and look around. Simply beautiful! After another hour, you arrive in Reifnitz (Spintikteiche - Reifnitz: 4 km). The path leads directly down to the lake via Raunacherstraße. Turn left, walk past the municipal office, cross the Reifnitzbach stream, then immediately turn left again onto the stream promenade and follow this for around 300 m before turning right onto Lindenweg. After a few meters you reach a traffic island with a wayside shrine. Keep left here and walk uphill along Schulstraße to the St. Anna branch church. Behind the church, follow the path to the right and in around 20 minutes you will reach the stage destination Maria Wörth (Reifnitz - Maria Wörth: 2.5 km).
