The 152 km long pilgrimage route to Gurk begins at the Sveta Ana Filial Church on the Slovenian side of the Loibl Pass, directly under the border crossing. On the first day's stage, it runs along the old Loibl Pass road and the former border crossing into Carinthia and on through the Loibl Valley and the Tscheppa Gorge to Ferlach. Impressive is the bright splendor of rare flowers and blossoms that grow along the way and some of which are found only in this area of Carinthia. Due to the coincidence of southern and southeastern Alpine endemics (plants that occur exclusively in this part of the Alps) as well as species that may have survived the ice age in the gorge area, the Tscheppaschlucht is considered a floristic treasure in addition to the natural spectacle of the thundering waterfalls.

After the Loibl tunnel, there is ample parking at the former Slovenian border station immediately on the right.

From the church Sveta Ana you reach the forecourt of the border station via a few steps and cross the main road in front of the tunnel portal. Via a narrow path and the old Loiblpass road, you reach the former border crossing (1,367m) with a managed hut on the Slovenian side after just under 2 km (45 min.). From there, the trail descends past the ruins of the Alt-St. Leonhard church to the Loiblpass federal road on the Austrian side. You follow the course of the federal road downhill for about 500 m and then turn left. Via an access road you reach the farm vulgo "Strach" and a little later the "Maurer" farms. From here you go along an asphalt road slightly downhill to the estate vulgo "Pagitz". Now you cross the long-distance hiking trail 03 and after about 500 m you come to a wayside shrine, where you turn right. Walk steeply downhill over hill and dale for about 20 minutes until you reach the "Deutscher Peter" inn, which you reach after about 10 km (3 hours).
A few meters after the "Deutscher Peter" the pilgrim's path branches off from the main road and you hike slightly uphill to the left in the direction of the Tschaukofall, from where, after experiencing a fascinating natural spectacle here, you then descend via a suspension bridge and metal ladders into the Tscheppaschlucht gorge. At the southern exit of the Tscheppaschlucht the hikers have to pay for the walk.
From the "German Peter" to the end of the Tscheppaschlucht is about 4 km. Here the hiking trail merges with a cycling trail that leads straight along the Loiblbach stream to Unterloibl and from there on to Ferlach. For the 8 km from "Deutscher Peter" to Ferlach you need another 3 hours. For the entire stage you need 5 - 6 hours, breaks are not included.
