81. Villacher Kirchtag

The Villacher Kirchtag transforms the festively adorned Villach old town into a unique stage for lived traditions, music, culinary delights, and exuberant joy for a week. The traditional festival has been celebrated since 1936 and is considered Austria's largest folk festival, attracting around 450,000 visitors annually. At the 81st Villacher Kirchtag from July 26 to August 2, 2026, guests can expect a diverse program featuring more than 130 individual events, local and international music and costume groups, as well as atmospheric performances on several stages.


Among the highlights is the large costume parade on Saturday, August 1, 2026, where thousands of costume wearers, folk dance groups, and brass bands from across the Alpine-Adriatic region will march through downtown Villach. Live music, dancing, traditional performances, and a large amusement park in the heart of the old town will also ensure excellent entertainment. Families and the youngest guests can look forward to special offers and the popular children's Kirchtag.


Culinary delights at the Kirchtag include traditional Carinthian specialties and treats from the Alpine-Adriatic region. One should definitely try the Villacher Kirchtag soup with Reindling as well as typical delicacies like gingerbread hearts, coconut macaroons, and langos. Put on your traditional attire, celebrate together, and enjoy the unmistakable Kirchtag atmosphere in the heart of Villach!
