The Ernst Jandl Show One Hundred Jandl Years 1925 – 2025 - ART MESS (schmutzenbacher pfui gack) World Premiere
25 years ago, in June 2000, two months before his 75th birthday, Ernst Jandl passed away. He stirred up German-language poetry from Vienna in the middle of the last century.
From enfant terrible, whom no publisher wanted to take on, he became one of the most influential and significant poets of the present and recent past.
An evening of many lesser-known poems and prose texts, in which Jandl reveals much about himself and his life: early childhood, growing up in National Socialism and war, the post-war period, his relationship with Friederike Mayröcker, his gradual literary successes, his crises, his depressions, alcohol, and decay.
Ultimately, the evening is an Ernst Jandl Show (also a good title) – entertaining, witty, musical, contemplative, and sad!
